Community + commercial

Room to explore.
A path to production.

EASI JS is available under a free community license for eligible users, with a separate commercial license for organizations that need one.

Choose the license that fits your organization.

Community license

Free for eligible use.

Individuals working for themselves, qualifying research and nonprofit organizations, and organization groups with annual gross revenue strictly below US $5 million can qualify.

Eligible businesses may use EASI JS commercially and include it in proprietary products, subject to the license’s distribution terms.

Commercial license

For organizations beyond community eligibility.

Organization groups at US $5 million or more in annual gross revenue need a written commercial license unless a stated exception applies.

Contact Xinonix about your use, including embedded distribution or OEM needs. Commercial terms are agreed separately.

Public source, with eligibility conditions.

EASI JS is source-available. Its revenue-based conditions mean this is not an OSI-approved open-source license. This page summarizes the EASI JS Community License; the complete license governs your rights.

Who can use the community license?

CategoryEligibility in brief
IndividualsActing for themselves for personal, educational, noncommercial, or independent research purposes. Work for an organization follows that organization’s eligibility.
Research institutionsRecognized public or nonprofit academic institutions, or public research institutions, not controlled by a for-profit organization, for their own education, research, or public-interest activities.
Nonprofit organizationsBona fide nonprofits recognized under applicable law, serving public-benefit purposes, not distributing profits to private owners, and not controlled by a for-profit organization. Their qualifying activities have no revenue limit.
Businesses and other organization groupsAnnual gross revenue strictly below US $5 million, measured across the organization group.

A contractor can work for an eligible client under that client’s eligibility. Each client must qualify or hold the appropriate commercial license. Research eligibility does not cover operating an ineligible organization’s business systems as an outsourced service.

The revenue threshold follows the whole group.

Annual gross revenue is the organization group’s consolidated worldwide revenue from all activities in its most recently completed fiscal year, before expenses or taxes and with intercompany transactions eliminated. If no fiscal year has finished, use actual revenue since formation.

The group includes entities that control you, that you control, or that are under common control. The threshold concerns revenue across that group, rather than only revenue from the product using EASI JS. It is not profit, valuation, or funding; investment proceeds and loan principal are excluded.

Exactly US $5 million is at the commercial threshold. Eligibility is reassessed when use begins, at each fiscal year-end, and when control changes. Creating a small subsidiary does not make an otherwise ineligible group eligible.

Evaluate first. Plan for growth.

For an organization that is already ineligible

The license permits up to 30 consecutive days of internal, nonproduction evaluation per major software version. It does not cover production use, paid services, or distribution. The period starts with the first execution of that major version and cannot be restarted through an affiliate, contractor, or minor release.

For a community user that becomes ineligible

After lawful community use, loss of eligibility through growth, acquisition, or a qualification change starts a 90-day transition. During that period, previously permitted use may continue while you arrange an appropriate commercial license or cease use and distribution. An expired evaluation does not start this transition.

Contact Xinonix when you are planning a deployment, acquisition, embedded distribution, or transition that needs commercial terms.

Common questions.

Do I need to publish my application’s source?

The community license does not require disclosure of your separate application code. You own your original modifications. Licensor-owned EASI JS portions remain subject to the license and its eligibility conditions.

What happens when I distribute EASI JS in my product?

Include the license, preserve applicable copyright and third-party notices, and identify material modifications. Recipients who receive and run a copy must independently qualify or have an applicable commercial license. An ineligible customer running an embedded copy needs licensing covering that use, including an appropriate OEM agreement where offered.

Are my application’s outputs restricted?

Data, images, and documents are not subject to fees or disclosure duties merely because EASI JS processed them. Rights in input data and third-party material remain your responsibility. Copies of the software embedded within an output remain covered software.

Does a hosted service make every customer a licensee?

Receiving output from an eligible operator’s standard hosted service does not, by itself, make the recipient a user of the software. Dedicated installations for an ineligible client and copies that customers run have separate conditions in the full license.

What does the license cover?

The license covers expressly licensed, Xinonix-owned EASI JS code and documentation. Third-party components retain their own terms. Patient or sample data, external tools, trademarks, EASI Studio, other language implementations, and separately licensed specification material are excluded.
